Riders christening the new Tunica County bike trail will cruise the 13 mile section from Rivergate Park to Mhoon Landing Park and back to the town of Tunica as part of the trail’s official opening on Saturday, March 23.
Aldermen set April 11 preservation hearing
The Town of Tunica took the next step toward establishment of a local historic district at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. The board set an April 11 hearing to consider the boundaries of the district, which were recommended to the board by the town’s Historic Preservation Commission.
“The Commission is eager to move forward,” town planner Bob Barber reported. “Tunica has a great downtown, and these preservation programs, if administered properly, are a great benefit.”
One injured in shooting
Details are sketchy surrounding an incident that sent an individual to an area hospital on Friday, March 22.
According to a press release issued by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at Kirby Estates near Robinsonville at 11:35 a.m. on March 22. The lone victim reported that he had been shot by a family member, who is listed as a juvenile.
Blazing the trail
Downtown Tunica hosted the official kickoff for Tunica Main Street’s bicycle trail system, a 13 mile ride west to the base of the levee near Mhoon Landing Park and back to town.
