Local homebuyer, rehab program changes direction
Tunica County’s housing program is somewhat in limbo, following an Attorney General’s opinion dated December 5, 2014.
The opinion responded to a question by Board of Supervisors president James Dunn, asking, “Can the Board of Supervisors budget a specific dollar amount and contract with a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Housing Organization to administer and manage a first-time homebuyer and rehabilitation program with County funds?”
In his response to Dunn, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood and Special Assistant AG Avery Mounger Lee concluded that the Board of Supervisors “cannot directly contract with a non-profit organization to administer and manage a first-time homebuyer and rehabilitation program with county funds pursuant to Section 19-3-40 (of state law).
