A woman walking along Prichard Road east of Tunica was struck and killed after dark Tuesday evening.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

One out of three traffic deaths in America is alcohol-related: that’s why law enforcement across the state, in partnership with the governor, are calling on the public to help put an end to drunk driving.

This year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility crackdown began Friday, August 15, and runs through the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 1.

Across the United States, more than 10,000 people are killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes every year, one every 51 minutes. Drunk driving is reckless and preventable.

Local insurance agent takes huge risks on waves

While most people evacuate their homes or hunker down at the news of an impending hurricane, Bruce Williams readies his surfboard for adventure.  The local Farm Bureau insurance agent said he chases hurricanes for opportunities to ride some humongous waves.

Williams started surfing when he was 12 years old, he said.  He said it all started with friends in his hometown, Destin, FL, which is known for its tropical storms and hurricanes.

Transcript released from July 18 Thompson trial

The full transcript from the July 18 Justice Court trial of county administrator Michael Thompson fills in many blanks in the account of the arrest last February and hints at a larger investigation of Thompson by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department.

During the trial, a special judge from Quitman County, Joe Brown, found County Administrator Michael Thompson guilty of driving with a suspended license in Tunica County Justice Court. Thompson’s attorney, Scott Colom, said he will appeal and dig even deeper to prove Thompson was entrapped by members of Tunica County Sherriff’s Department.
