Burglary suspect in custody

An alarm that went off at one local business about 3 a.m. Sunday, August 3, ultimately helped to solve a burglary at another store.

Officers apprehended Theodore Lambert of Tunica within an hour of the attempted break in at Watson’s on Highway 61 North, after tentatively identifying the man from surveillance footage. Lambert was found in possession of a large number of rings and other pieces of jewelry.

Gold Medalist: Tunica’s Jalen Miller leads USA team to world title

Ole Miss freshman Jalen Miller of Tunica made his final race of the season count.

Running leadoff for Team USA’s 4x100-meter relay team, the 19 year old helped the Americans win a gold medal with a time of 38.70 at the IAAF World Junior Championships last Saturday, July 26, at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The Americans’ winning time was just .04 seconds off the world junior record (set by Team USA in 2004) and the third-fastest in history.

“Mission accomplished bringing the gold medal back home,” Miller said after the win. “Just wanna thank God for this opportunity and keeping me humble, running fast, and making people proud.”

Accident claims Tate County teen

An early morning accident Monday, July 28, on Prichard Road in Tunica County claimed the life of 18 year old Steven Cross Pegram of Arkabutla, Miss.

Cross, the son of Steve and Cheryl Pegram, was just days away from starting his college career at Mississippi State University. He had graduated from  Tunica Academy in May and was on his way to work Monday on a Tunica County farm, when his truck left the roadway, plunged into a deep bayou and struck a tree.

Year to remember for NAPA’s Geri Lamm


For Geri Lamm, longtime manager of NAPA’s Tunica store, 2014 is proving to be a banner year  – literally.

Prominent above the busy counter at 2251 Highway 61 North is a recent addition, one that causes Lamm to beam with pride. The banner touts the 2014 Dizzy Dean World Champions, the Batesville Little Slammers 10 and under fastpitch softball team that Lamm coached to the ultimate victory this year.

Nearby are a pair of giant trophies: one from the World series in Southaven July 16-20 and the second from the State Tournament July 3-5 in Batesville.
