Dogs: more than pets


One organization has seen first hand the impact that four legged friends can make–beyond being man’s best friend.
Charles Dwyer of Senatobia, who spoke on behalf of Retrieving Freedom, a kennel that assists The Tower of Hope, told of the miracles of service dogs at the Robinsonville Rotary Club on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Dwyer said service dogs are classified in three ways. They can assist the injured, both military and non military. They can serve as companion dogs. They can be used as facility dogs. All of these uses require specialized training.

Meet Your Elected Official: Nickson sees progressive future for Tunica County


Ten years from now, Henry Nickson Jr. envisions a different Tunica County.
“I see a diverse school system in the future,” Nickson said. “Ten years from now, we’ll have an abundance of jobs and homeowners. The casino industry will still be here and going well. The pipe plant will be bringing in revenue. Ten years from now, I see Wal-Mart and CVS but the small businesses, the mom and pop shops, will be here too. I see the county doing things to support the small businesses and more citizens here to support our businesses too. Of course, I see Henry Nickson still in office being a productive supervisor.”

Study recommends market diversification


A recent PricewaterhouseCoopers study reveals that Tunica’s tourism market is largely one dimensional and that it must diversify to survive and thrive.
According to the study, which was commissioned by the Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Tunica County Board of Supervisors and all nine of the county’s gaming establishments, the Tunica market is facing unprecedented challenges that could impact its ability to thrive if it doesn’t take steps to become more appealing to a wider, more diverse audience.
