Old Man Winter comes calling

Heavy rains Sunday night turned into sleet, freezing rain and snow Monday morning, causing power outages throughout the entire town of Tunica and most of the county, with areas near Robinsonville the worst hit.

Tunica Countians woke up to a frozen world, with temperatures hovering in the teens and no heat or lights, reminding many of the devastating ice storm of 1994. Co. sets sights on vote plan

Three years after 2010 census numbers were released, Tunica County supervisors are edging closer to adoption of a voter redistricting plan.

With inclement weather and power outages abbreviating Monday’s regular meeting, the county board met again Wednesday to complete a lengthy agenda; they were expected to discuss an upcoming “final redistricting meeting” on Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m.

The Board has indicated at previous meetings that it intends to adopt Community Plan 7C, which was put forward by a citizens’ group. Two other plans were considered, the first developed by Chris Watson of Bridge & Watson and presented in May 2011, and the second submitted by Cleveland attorney Ellis Turnage, which was presentetd at a June 2013 hearing. Community Plan 5A was unveiled in October 2013, but the plan currently being considered has never been widely publicized.
