Golden Estates death under investigation
The death of 48 year old Darlene Clark, a resident of the Golden Estates Apartments in Tunica, is under investigation, after her body was discovered by firefighters responding to a call early Sunday morning.
County coroner Glenn Grant said the cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy. Grant said the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
Tunica Fire Chief Scott Goff said his department responded to 1001 Antioch Street at about 2 a.m. on June 9. The 31-unit complex is home to 32 residents, almost all over 65 or disabled.
Parks & Rec teamwork impacts citizens’ health
At Tunica Parks & Recreation, the name of the game is “partnering.”
Recreation director Billy Willis’ involvement with the Regional Health Council and its local affiliate is just one more way the recreation officials have found to reach out.
Even though membership for Tunica County Recreation has exceeded 1200, Willis isn’t satisfied.
“We want to engage the entire adult and youth populations,” Willis remarked at last month’s health council meeting.
He and other rec officials are reaching out to engage churches to “educate and encourage their congregations” to adopt healthy lifestyles. The Henderson Recreation complex most recently hosted a Clergy Walk.
Relay for Life is June 21
Six teams with room for more are set to Relay for Life in downtown Tunica on June 21. The event supports the American Cancer Society.
ACS Community Representative Vic Sullivan said the event promises to be a fun filled night for a very good cause.
“Teams are encouraged to set up tents around the walking track in (Rivergate) Park and have on site fundraisers. On site fundraisers include selling food, games and activities for children and adults,” Sullivan said.
Teams can register online by visiting www.relayforlife.org/tunicams.
