Small changes, big impact

First impressions overall were good, when a team from Mississippi State University’s Stennis Institute assessed the town of Tunica recently, at the behest of Tunica Main Street.
Joe Fratesi reported the team’s findings last week, with a written report to follow by early December.

Meet Your Elected Officials: Linzy ready to set “tone of leadership”


Looking back at her early childhood, Louise Linzy remembers the hardships she, her mother and grandparents faced living in poverty in rural Tunica County.
At their home near Commerce, there wasn’t an indoor toilet or running water, and times were not easy for her family.
Her mother had left Linzy’s birthplace of Chicago and moved back to her own home of Tunica to live with her parents. Her grandmother worked at Tunica’s largest industry at the time, Pillowtex, and her grandfather worked as a mechanic, fixing cars for a living.

Town takes up closure, concerns


An alley closure and a potential public nuisance transformed the Board of Aldermen meeting into King Solomon’s court on Nov. 15.
Several weeks ago, officials considered a petition to close the alley between Georganne and Jerry Perry’s home and Eric and Jade Poff’s residence. Adjacent landowners had submitted a petition in favor of the closure.
The board held a public hearing to discuss the matter on Nov. 15 and Eric Poff was on hand.
