Town eyes new wards


Tunica’s Board of Aldermen started the process of redistricting town wards last week, leading up to the next municipal election in 2013.
The 2010 census showed a slight population loss in town boundaries, from 1132 in 2000 to 1030 in the year 2010. But a shift in population within existing wards is really driving the move.

CVB head shores up Tunica tourism options


The tie between local museums and tourism got a boost from Convention & Visitors Bureau chief Webster Franklin, as Franklin outlined progress at two local venues last week for Tunica Rotary members.
Franklin said the Tunica RiverPark and the new Gateway to the Blues are “very important to continued tourism development, especially cultural and heritage tourism.

Recovery expenses hefty

Countless homes destroyed or damaged, hundreds of man hours in clean up,  millions of dollars in lost revenue...there are many numbers that could be attached to the flooding in Tunica County. On Oct. 14, Emergency Management Director Randy Stewart issued a worksheet providing a breakdown on what Tunica County has spent in disaster recovery.

Celebrating sixty years


In 1951, the Korean conflict was heating up, the first passenger jet trip was made, Mickey Mantle hit his first home run and “I Love Lucy” debuted on television.
That same year, Sister Angela Susalla became a member of the Adrian Dominican Sisters and embarked on a life of service that eventually led her from her home state of Michigan to Tunica.
