Following several days of coronations and celebrations, the Tunica County School District spotlighted Homecoming royalty at the annual parade on Friday, Oct. 14. Sheriff K.C. Hamp led the participants on their journey down Main Street and up Edwards Avenue.
Firefighters prepare for worst
While farmers were getting ready to bring crops out of the field, emergency responders from all over the state were harvesting knowledge from a week long training exercise in Rankin County.
Chief Jimmie Neal and Firefighter/EMT Todd Brown of the North Tunica Fire Department were among those participating in activities. They joined with other members of Mississippi’s three Search and Rescue Task Forces to meet a challenge issued by the state’s Office of Homeland Security. That challenge? Be the best in safety, efficiency and technique.
Tunica plays part in Oct. 11 raid in Arkansas
Paul Battle Arena & Exposition Center in Tunica served as the staging area for a massive raid by federal, state and local law enforcement in Helena-West Helena, AR Tuesday.
Eight hundred state and federal officers, including the FBI and Arkansas’ Eastern District U.S. Attorney’s office, arrested 51 people in a sweep that started at 4 a.m. on October 11. Last week, a federal grand jury handed down seven indictments of 70 people, including five law enforcement officers, for charges ranging from public corruption and drug trafficking to money laundering. Fourteen individuals remained at large at presstime.
