Co. general fund plunges to $1.75M deficit

A recent report to supervisors regarding cash in all county funds at First Security Bank shows that by November 30, 2013, just over $571,000  was left in the treasury.

The general county fund, from which most expenses are paid, is overdrawn $1,758,322.80, after over $1.3 million worth of claims were paid December 2. Tunica County began the month overdrawn over $400,000 in the general fund.

County moves to cut town funding

Working relations between county and city governments took a turn for the worse last week, as supervisors voted to cut the town’s share of gaming tax revenue in half.

By a 4-1 vote, the county board resolved to send such a request to the State Legislature. James Dunn, Henry Nickson, Phillis Williams and McKinley Daley voted in favor of the resolution, with Cedric Burnett casting the lone “no” vote.

Town looks at finances after county vote

“In light of the threat of the loss of significant revenue, I move that the town take immediate steps to raise revenues and cut expenses, including making the water and sewer system self sustaining,” Ward 4 Aldermen Brooks Taylor said at the Nov. 4 meeting of the board and Mayor.

Town Clerk Celia Boren called for a roll call vote and the motion passed unanimously.
