Financial woes widespread
Citing steadily declining revenues, casino representatives asked the board of supervisors for a break on local taxes at the county’s Aug. 15 meeting.
Jerry Sanders, representing Harrah’s Entertainment, said that the downturn began four years ago.
“In 2011, it’s not trending any better,” Sanders said.
Troop 16’s roots run deep in Tunica
“Boy Scouts start out in shirts this size and become Eagle Scouts in a uniform like Joseph Melton’s,” Troop 16 Scoutmaster Dick Taylor told Tunica Rotary members last week.
The club has been the chartering organization for Troop 16 for decades, Taylor said, although some of the early history of the troop is lost.
Town takes up noise, clothing
With a unanimous vote, the Board of Aldermen agreed that from now on, residents must “keep it down in town.”
On Tuesday, Aug. 16, officials amended an existing ordinance on noise control. Previous regulations called for quiet in the town limits between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. and “at a distance of 50 feet.” The vote removes the set hours and distance elements.
