Exploration of Beaver Dam site continues


The search for clues about ancient life at Beaver Dam is ongoing.
On Monday, Feb. 21, Rachael Evans, a soil scientist with the Natural Resources Conservation Services, brought equipment to take core samples from the Indian mound at Beaver Dam.  She took samples three meters deep from five different locations in the mound.

SO makes quick arrest in Feb. 13 shooting


On the heels of a drive by shooting on Jan. 31, investigators with the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department have been piecing together the details on another local incident.
At 4 p.m. on Feb. 13, deputies were dispatched to 1096 Collins Street after reports of a shooting. Authorities found an injured man at the home. He had reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. He was released earlier this week.

Judges needed to pick best of wildest


Have you ever wanted to get a taste of what the Wild Game Cookoff is all about? Now’s your chance, according to Tunica Main Street Director Lynn Ryals.
Judges are needed in three drink categories and six food categories for this year’s cookoff, set for Feb. 25 and 26. Seven judges will score entries and decide winners starting at 10 a.m.
“In the past, we’ve had 10 judges, but now we’re going to have seven in each,” Ryals said. “ The teams had asked us to do that since 10 people is a lot to prepare things for.”
