Chandler eyes progress

With time ticking down on the first half of the school year, Superintendent Steve Chandler presented an academic calibrator to the school board on Nov. 14.
He said that the changes are being made in the district and five procedures are in place to facilitate that change. The district is now using: white board protocol; competency and strand specific student work stations; weekly leadership team and professional learning community meetings with finished products; academic tracking using Renaissance STAR assessments and monthly school leadership team calibrator presentations.

Downtown business celebrates milestone

In 1997, Jennie Hibbler and her husband Rodney were driving through town when they noticed a building for sale in Downtown Tunica.
A few weeks later, the Hibblers closed on the property and, soon afterward, Jennie began seeing her dreams of owning her own business coming to fruition with the opening of her Alpha Commission Christian Bookstore.

CCC speaker encourages support for veterans

Amid stars and stripes, military uniforms, and patriotic music, a combat veteran from the First Gulf War announced, “Our veterans are in need of help today – our lack of attention is a shame.”
Delivering the Veterans Day address before hundreds at Coahoma Community College  Monday, Jimmy Mathews of Lambert, who served in the 479th Ordnance company of a war he calls “unforgettable,” said, “Veterans across America have earned our utmost gratitude.”
