Town Tree Committee coming?
Trees, which have been a popular topic among residents for the last month, sprouted up on the Board of Aldermen’s agenda on Feb. 7.
Bob Barber, who was hired by the town as a consultant to the planning commission, said that body had heard a request from a citizen about cutting down a tree on their property. The tree is on the town’s right of way, but would interfere with the construction of a new home. Barber said resident Sterling Withers made the request and the Planning Commission recommended that he be allowed to proceed.
Accident has happy ending for sweet Lady
Monday, February 6 started out as a typical day for John Allen and his loyal dog, Lady. Some of you may have even seen them that morning traveling north on Highway 61 between Clarksdale and Tunica, John on his bicycle and Lady riding behind in her custom-made cart. They didn’t seem to have a care in the world. Just a man and his dog, enjoying life and the company of each other.
All of that tragically changed when John’s bicycle was struck by a northbound car at Clayton and he was critically injured. The impact was so profound, it caused Lady to bolt in fear from the one person she loved more than anything. She ran into the nearby woods. As the emergency crew worked frantically to save John’s life and prepare him to be airlifted to The Med, I was told you could hear Mr. Allen crying out for his dog. In a matter of moments, he was flown from the scene and Lady was left behind.
