Guest Column: Downtowns and perimeter retailers
“Why do you do so much for Downtown – how about us?” As downtowns become more successful, town leaders start to hear this from the perimeter retailers that exist outside the downtown area. This is good news!
Main Street is not just a “downtown” development program; it’s a “community” development program. Without apologies, we always recommend that a community focus their time, energy and resources in their downtown first because it represents the unique marketable image of the community. As the program becomes more successful, it moves throughout the community just as the spokes of a wheel extend from the hub.
