Faces of the flood: David Essery
The peaceful, close-knit Tunica Cut-off community is the last place David Essery ever thought he would live, but now that the epic flood has come, he has no plans of returning.
“I doubt seriously I will ever go back,” Essery said. “I just lost a whole lot of what I worked hard for. I can’t go through this again. My uncle has been down there for 36 years, and he’s 82 years old. This has really just killed him.”
Many Cut-off residents are retired, and living there has offered a quiet, peaceful, and inexpensive way of life. “I love all those people and that neighborhood,” he said.
