Archaeologist maps early civilization
Since the early 1920’s, archaeologists have travelled to Tunica County to study one of the most significant archaeological sites in the region–the Hollywood Mounds Site.
Today, thanks to new developments in geomapping technologies, a Tulane University doctoral candidate is carrying that momentum forward to determine even more about the civilization of people that once called this site home.
“It is one of the biggest sites in the Delta,” said Bryan Haley, the researcher who will be spending the next five weeks in Tunica mapping the Hollywood Mounds Site. “It’s nearly a half mile north to south and maybe a quarter mile east to west. It’s one of the largest Mississippian sites we know of.”
