Native battling for USA
On a day when most Americans are enjoying the fun and festivities associated with the anniversary of our nation’s independence, one of Tunica’s native sons will be fighting it out for the good ole US of A.
Fortunately, this battle only involves the perils of cooking over a hot grill, with the only carnage being the pounds of pork and poultry being prepared for the “United States Versus Canada Barbecue Contest” held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on July 4.
“We’re cooking about 670 pounds of ribs, roughly 180 butts and 5,000 pieces of chicken,” said John David Wheeler, whose “Natural Born Grillers” cooking team will be competing in the inaugural US Versus Canada international cook-off. “We’re going to be feeding about 4,000 people and competing against teams from Canada. It’s going to be a big deal.”
