United Way’s Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance (EITCA) will have its VITA volunteers once again helping qualifying families earning up to $50,000 or less benefit from the Earned Income Tax Credit. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers will be assisting individuals and families with filing their taxes for free at various site locations throughout the Mid-South region. Most sites will open by Feb. 3 and continue work through April 17. As of Jan. 17, the Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting electronically filed tax returns. The deadline to file 2011 taxes by mail is April 17.
