Minister's Moment: To Be Made Whole
To Be Made Whole
When I lived in upstate New York, there was a local amateur theatre group that staged Jesus Christ, Superstar every year during Lent. The production attracted people of all ages to the casting call, and the producer/director tried to include as many as he could (good way to build an audience).
One young girl who tried out was a member of the middle school chorus I directed. She was cast, but only in the “y’all come” scenes. During the rehearsal period she came to me very excited because she had been given a larger role. She was going to be a leper. Knowing what we do about leprosy, this might seem strange to us, but you have to understand young people and the theatre. She had made it to the big time. She had arrived.
