The reopening of the South Abutment Campground, located on the Tate county side of Arkabutla Lake, was a long time coming, stated management at Arkabutla Lake.  
The campground, previously renovated during 1977-1980 offered one of the finest campgrounds in the area with 83 paved campsites, paved circulation roads, 4 modern shower houses, a fee booth, tent pads, 20-amp electrical hookups available between most campsites and water spigots spread sporadically throughout the area.  These amenities were more than ample to serve the most sophisticated RV of the day.
