David Buttrick, a preacher and teacher of preaching, says that a sermon should be constructed in sections. Each section should begin with a strong statement and end with a version of the same statement, making the first and last sentences of each section almost identical. In this way those listening will be more likely to get the point.
I remember reading somewhere that if a playwright wants you to remember something, he says it three times. By the third time it has probably stuck in your brain, if only subliminally.
