Magnolia State meets Big Apple for picnic June 9
Mississippi writers and artists, blues and bluegrass musicians and delicious Southern cuisine are all on tap for the 33rd Annual New York Mississippi Picnic, which will be held Saturday, June 9, from noon – 6 p.m. in New York City’s Central Park. The location of the picnic will be Center Road at the 72nd Street and 5th Avenue entrance to Central Park, which is between the Naumberg Bandshell and Sheep Meadow.
This year’s picnic, themed Mississippi Stars Shine in 2012, will pay tribute to actors and producers from Mississippi that received awards for their work within the last year, as well as the Muppets, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. Kermit the Frog, Mississippian Jim Henson’s most famous Muppet, was created by Henson in Leland, Miss., in 1955.
