Aldermen set utility rates for city
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen literally hope their new rates will hold water as they go into effect early this fall.
With a unanimous vote on July 6, the board approved a new water and sewer rate structure. Rates will follow those used by the Tunica County Utility District. Residential customers will pay $12 a month for water up to 6000 gallons, plus $10 per month for sewer services up to 6000 gallons. Every 1000 gallons over the minimum will cost $2 for water and $3 for sewer. Commercial customers are divided into three different categories: small, large and hotels, motels and apartment complexes. Small commercial businesses are defined as those who will use less than 15,000 gallons a month. They will pay $12 for water up to 6000 gallons and $2 for every 1000 gallons over that. They will pay $18 for sewer services up to 6000 gallons and $3 for every 1000 gallons over the minimum.
