Columns: On the Doorstep
My perspective on Tunica County history comes from 21 years of covering city and county boards, the advent of the casino resort industry, elections and more elections, crime and court cases, the construction of infrastructure and amenities and the start of new programs in education, recreation, and tourism.
I served for five years as an alderman during one of the worst periods of history for the town, when we were called “America’s Ethiopia,” when our county was known as the poorest in the nation, when Sugar Ditch became a household word.
