Obama wins second term
On Election Night 2012, President Barack Obama won both the electoral count and the popular vote over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in the November 6 General Election. Unofficial totals (at press time Wednesday) show Obama with 303 electoral votes nationwide to Romney’s 206. The popular vote was closer: Obama, 59,725,608, or 50 percent, to Romney, 57,098,650, 48 percent.
Turnout was robust across the country but not as high as in 2008, according to national media reports.
