The Taxman cometh
Notices for 2012 taxes started landing in local mailboxes this week, and some county residents are experiencing “sticker shock.”
In August, Tunica County advertised a proposed increase of 15.83 mills, from 53.74 mills to 69.57 mills.
County administrator Clifton Johnson said the Board of Supervisors approved and he delivered to the tax assessor an actual millage of 66.49 on county property (except in Robinsonville). In the town of Tunica, the actual rate is 66.24 mills, slightly less than the proposed increase.
