According to Sheriff K.C. Hamp, a $150,000 budget amendment is necessary to ensure that public safety in Tunica County can be maintained.
Hamp presented his request and documentation to the Board of Supervisors on Jan. 7. Hamp asked for an immediate vote, but the board opted to table the matter until their next meeting, set for Jan. 15 at 5 p.m.
In a memo to the board, Hamp said the matter was introduced by Chief Deputy Randy Stewart on Dec. 14. Stewart discussed “the condition of portable and mobile radios operating in the Tunica County 800 (megahertz) Trunking System.”
“Tunica County purchased the original 800 MHz Radio System in 1998,” Hamp wrote. “Tunica County purchased portable and mobile radios for all agencies/departments/offices within the County which now includes approximately five hundred radios countywide.”
