Eatery fills niche in local restaurant scene
For just over a month, a new Tunica restaurant has been serving up pizza pies and healthy food options to local patrons looking for some variety in their dining options.
Southbound Pizza, which opened its doors at the start of the New Year, is a partnership between Moon Lake resident John Mohead and Buddy Allen, Michael Johnson and Patrick Johnson of Tunica.
“We opened up on January 4 – the first weekend in January,” said Mohead, managing partner of Southbound Pizza. “We saw pizza as a void that needed to be filled in the community. But in addition to pizza, one of our goals was to offer a combination of healthy food option. We felt that was also a void that needed to be filled in Tunica.”
Mohead said the idea to start a pizza business in Tunica was spawned on a sandbar in Moon Lake last summer. He said he pitched the idea to the other investors, and the concept evolved into what is now Southbound Pizza.
