Arena’s impact on local economy is huge
The Tunica Arena’s 12th anniversary is shaping up to be a banner year, with 12 new events booked, including a trio of world events in the line-up.
Arena director Steve Sosebee said he and staffers Rebecca Fyfe and Leigh Watson have hit the road and the airwaves to attract new bookings. Arena staff also work closely with the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau. Now, the schedule is full on all but four weekends in 2013, Sosebee said.
For the first quarter, arena events have made an estimated $2.5 million impact on the local economy, Sosebee said last week at Tunica Rotary, on track to match Fiscal Year 2012’s $10 million total impact. The arena is bringing visitors to Tunica casinos, filling hotel rooms and restaurants, and adding to the bottom line at local gas stations and grocery stores, Sosebee said.
