Spring rains soak Tunica
With May weather seeming more like April in rainfall and temperature, the town of Tunica public works department has been working to get a handle on water leaks, overflowing ditches and inflow into its sewer system.
May rainfall totaled 4.41 inches from May 2-5, exceeding normal amounts by over three inches.
Operations director Ellis Koonce told the town board Tuesday that at the peak of last week’s downpours, 1.65 million gallons of water were moving through the municipality’s treatment plant, over four times the normal amount.
