‘The house that Coach Kirkland built’
Retired basketball coach extraordinaire Gerone Kirkland, his wife Annie and many family members entered the Rosa Fort High School gymnasium to thunderous applause from a large crowd gathered to honor one of Mississippi’s best, as the facility was renamed the Gerone Kirkland Gymnasium Building last Saturday.
Coach Kirkland, with over 800 wins in his career, has one of the best coaching records in the state. He worked in Tunica County at RFHS from 1969 to 1997, retiring as athletic director and varsity basketball coach and taught P.E., Driver’s Education and Mississippi history during his tenure.
