Rural county fire protection due to expire
County supervisors failed to renew a contract with the town of Tunica for fire protection for 80 percent of the county last week, but with the current contract expiring December 31, 2013, the Board was expected to revisit the matter at a December19 special meeting.
At the December 12 payroll meeting, newly hired Board attorney Ellis Pittman said he had not seen the proposed new agreement. County administrator Michael Thompson, also newly hired, noted that the current Rural Fire Protection Agreement between the county and the town expires at the end of this month and that a new agreement is needed in order for the town to continue to provide fire protection services.
