Local History: Tunica men and women alike answer duty’s call
Numerous men and women of Tunica County enlisted in the armed forces during World War II. These citizens served in every capacity, from fighter planes to nurses, to barbers, and after the war, most of them returned to Tunica to get married, have families and carry on the farms and businesses left behind.
Others gave their lives. Eight Tunica men died in the battles surrounding the D-Day invasion. Many soldiers were buried in American graves in England and Europe.
