Senate flood insurance bill gains momentum

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) said he is encouraged by the growing momentum for the Senate to consider bipartisan legislation he helped write to stop flood insurance reforms that are having unintended and harmful economic consequences throughout Mississippi and other states.

Cochran met with dozens of local officials and business leaders in Gulfport recently to discuss the effects of implementation of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012, which has resulted in unintended skyrocketing National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) premiums.  Representatives from the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance (http://bit.ly/1fbE9Qs) were on Capitol Hill last week to encourage the Senate to soon vote on the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (S.1846).
