Coming home is bittersweet for former deputy
Coming back home was always something to look forward to for Russell Hoskins. The 2002 Rosa Fort High School graduate served in both the US Army and US Air Force for more than a decade and has been stationed around the world including war zones. He left the military to pursue a civilian life and sought employment in his hometown, where he discovered a new battle – the search for work.
Hoskins worked as a sheriff’s deputy for the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department during his younger years and was ecstatic to return to his hometown duty, he said. However, he was soon disappointed when he wasn’t offered an opportunity to protect and serve the people he knew, the people of Tunica.
“It’s kind of like in the movies when the Vietnam veterans come back, and nobody wants to hire them,” he said. “That’s kind of how I feel.”
