Minister’s Moment: God Don't Make No Junk
God Don’t Make No Junk
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
In the school where I spent a large part of my career there was a bulletin board over my desk. Since I was the only one who used the room, and since the board was out of the main line of sight of the students, I covered it with items that were of interest to me. Sometimes students would stop and read them, but it was first and foremost for my enjoyment. In the center of the collection was the cartoon drawing of a little boy with a mighty scowl on his face. The caption underneath read, “I know I’m somebody, ‘cause God don’t make no junk.”
I believe the artist who created that drawing had a beef with somebody. Someone had told him at sometime, perhaps in early childhood, that he was a nobody, a nothing, an unimportant, untalented, worthless creature who would never amount to anything. This picture, with its accompanying text, was his declaration of worth—of independence from the negative image someone had tried to create for him. He had come to realize that he was somebody to God, and therefore of inestimable value.
