Guest Column: Saturday morning delights
As my three year old grandbaby and I sat down to watch SpongeBob Square Pants and Phineas & Ferb, it came to mind, have people run out of material to write about?
Why couldn’t they bring back Romper Room with Ms. Nancy? She was the host, or might I say hostess, dressed in high heels, pearls and a dress. She would hold up that Magic Mirror and say, “I see Ann, Susie, Joe” and etc.
Remembering, just like it was yesterday, Martha Monteith spent the night with me, and we were watching the show. Ms. Nancy actually called out Martha’s name. I couldn’t understand–if she saw Martha, what about me? Like a lunatic I began jumping up and down waving in hopes she would acknowledge me, but she never did.You know it was the longest running kid show ever. Probably because kids like me were waiting to hear their name.
