Fantasy becomes reality for local musician, fan
In the summer of 1958, the Kingston Trio exploded onto the music scene with their hit single “Tom Dooley.” In the era of Do-Wop and Elvis, their clean, crisp brand of folk music was like nothing anyone had ever heard before and it took the country by storm, quickly becoming the definitive sound of a generation. Other familiar songs of the Trio include “Scotch and Soda,” “Sloop John B,” “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “Greenback Dollar,” and “Where Have All The Flowers Gone.” Scores of other artists and musicians followed down the trail the Kingston Trio had blazed and folk music reigned supreme until the music scene went electric with the arrival of the British Invasion.
