Primary election is Tuesday
Tunica County voters wanting to cast a ballot during the June 1 primary elections will be limited to voting for one of three Republican candidates for the seat of U.S. Congressman for the Second Congressional District. That’s because eight-term incumbent Bennie Thompson (D-Bolton) is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket, allowing him to concentrate his efforts on November’s general election.
Republican candidates for Thompson’s seat include George Bailey of Clinton, 2008 GOP Congressional nominee Richard Cook of Byram and Bill Marcy of Meridian.
The Second Congressional District, which includes a total of 23 counties–primarily in the Delta–includes Tunica.
