A reception honoring the service of Judge Kenneth Thomas will be held at the Tunica County court house on Friday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. The community is invited.
Thomas, who has served as an 11th Circuit Court Judge for the last 16 years, announced his retirement earlier this year.
Tunica mother charged in death of infant
“She was one of my closest friends and I never imagined her life going in this direction,” a friend said of the series of incidents leaving a Tunica County woman facing first and second degree murder charges in the death of her child.
On Dec. 3, Angie Davis Murphree, 30, was taken into custody in Memphis to face accusations that she administered methadone to her daughter, which led to her death. Eleven month old Madison Murphree died at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital on Nov. 3, 2010.
District changes possible
With redistricting likely following 2010 census results, the Board of Supervisors set a preliminary hearing to discuss details with the public. It will be held Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. in the courtroom at the Tunica County Courthouse.
Board attorney Andy Dulaney said similar hearings are being planned in surrounding areas, such as DeSoto County. He said they will likely host several hearings to accommodate a large population but suggested Tunica County host one.
