In the times before internet and smart phones, the only way to reach Santa Claus was by letter.

This year, The Tunica Times is launching an effort to go back to the good old days.

“In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we’d like to run some letters to Santa in the paper,” Times Managing Editor Meg Coker said. “Of course, once we’re finished with them, we’ll send them on to the North Pole.”
Coker said the initiative is open to all ages.
“Obviously, kids who can’t write yet maybe have to have some help from Mom and Dad and that’s okay,” Coker said. “We welcome anyone who wants to participate.
“They are welcome to put whatever is on their Christmas list in the letter plus anything else they want to add.”
All letters should include the writer’s name, age and where they are from and should be addressed to: Santa Claus c/o The Tunica Times, PO Box 308, Tunica MS 38676.
Coker hopes the response will be tremendous.
“This will be a great way to get in the spirit and we hope to get lots of wonderful letters to pass on,” Coker said.

On a chilly night in November, a steady stream of women files into the On Pointe Dance Studio on Main Street. Some carry a bottle of wine, others a plate of something steamy and delicious. Everyone is smiling. The occasion is the monthly Arty Party.
The Arty Party is a gathering of participants for cocktails, fellowship and the opportunity to exercise some creative artistic expression.
Celeste Zepponi, a native of Clarksdale, Miss., leads the class. The concept has become so popular over the past year that she now travels to two other locations in Helena and Clarksdale.

Jesco, Inc.’s senior vice president delivered good news about the future home of Schulz Extruded Products to the Tunica County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 15.
Jerry Maxcy gave a brief overview on construction progress at the site since Jesco was named general contractor in late August. He said things are “really moving” on the project and “everything is going as well as it possibly can.”
He estimated that work was over 90 percent complete on the cold mill portion and concrete panels all along the complex. Work began on the blue skin and metal siding around a week ago.
