Waste disposal woes plague Board of Supervisors
The issue of nonresidential waste was once again dumped on the Board of Supervisors at their first meeting in October.
Carl Simmons, Waste Management’s district manager at the Tunica Landfill, appeared before the board to answer questions. In July, Waste Management begin assessing a $20 per ton charge on nonresidential waste brought to the landfill.
Simmons said when the last “host agreement” was made with the county about 15 years ago, the fees for nonresidential waste were included.

Collison with train injures one
A 27 year old man with Tunica ties was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Sept. 27 following a collision with a train.
At approximately 7:35 a.m., the Amtrak “City of New Orleans” train struck a vehicle driven by Will Spencer at Pritchard Road and Highway 3. Several members of Spencer’s family are Tunica County residents.
