Town takes up noise, clothing


With a unanimous vote, the Board of Aldermen agreed that from now on, residents must “keep it down in town.”
On Tuesday, Aug. 16, officials amended an existing ordinance on noise control. Previous regulations called for quiet in the town limits between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. and “at a distance of 50 feet.” The vote removes the set hours  and distance elements.

Local governments propose FY 2012 budgets

The Town of Tunica’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2012 is expected to decline, while the Tunica County School District budget is projected to grow from $36.2 million last year to $37.1 million.
Town officials are projecting total revenues of $2,757,300 and a beginning cash balance of $2 million, for a total of $4,757,300, down from just over $5 million last year. The town expects to disburse $2,787,234 in FY 2012 and carry over a cash balance of $1.9 million, both down from the prior year.

Run-off set for Aug. 23

Tunica County voters will be asked to once again cast ballots in two local races, following returns from the Democratic Primary on Aug. 2, 2011.
A run-off election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Polls will be open countywide from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Four candidates vied for county tax assessor and collector with no one candidate earning the needed 50 percent of votes. Final election totals put Norma J. Anderson and Leigh Graves closest to the required amount. Anderson claimed 31. 28 percent of votes while Graves had 30.93.
