Contractor: plant progressing rapidly


Jesco, Inc.’s senior vice president delivered good news about the future home of Schulz Extruded Products to the Tunica County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 15.
Jerry Maxcy gave a brief overview on construction progress at the site since Jesco was named general contractor in late August. He said things are “really moving” on the project and “everything is going as well as it possibly can.”
He estimated that work was over 90 percent complete on the cold mill portion and concrete panels all along the complex. Work began on the blue skin and metal siding around a week ago.

Project aims high


What began as a young mom taking inventory of her child’s toys has quickly become an way to pass on some good cheer this Christmas season.
From now through mid December, Tasia Draper of Tunica is organizing the Hope Heaven Campaign, a food and toy drive for local families in need.
Draper said the idea sprang from a recent clean-up of her son, Jelani’s room. As she was going through his toys, she found several still in boxes.
“There were things that he had hardly even played with,” Draper said “Everyone’s struggling so much these days, I thought about what I could do to make sure that everyone has a wonderful Christmas.”

Jones finds home sweet home in Tunica

Although the setting is different, Lindsay Klimek Jones said her story is much like  the plot to the popular film “Legally Blond.”
“Kind of like Elle Woods, I woke up one day and said ‘I want to go to law school,” she says with a laugh.
At that point, Jones was enrolled at the University of Mississippi pursuing a degree in anthropology with a minor in biology.
