Board retains current health insurance
Insurance for county employees again made its way to the Board of Supervisors’ agenda and brought personnel to the meeting on June 29.
The board opted to continue coverage by Cigna, with Velvet Bass as the agent of record. Beat 4 Supervisor Henry Nickson offered a motion to make Nick Floyd and Associates the agent of record for Cigna, but action on the initial motion to leave Bass as the agent lead to no action on Nickson’s proposal.
Nickson said he was disappointed with how the matter had been handled.
He stressed that the Tunica County employee handbook highlights a chain of command for employees to follow and that it had been ignored. He alleged that false information had been distributed by employees, while they were on Tunica County time and that actions were “disrespectful.”
Use caution to prevent thefts
Tunica Police Chief Richard Veazey is cautioning local residents not to leave valuables in their vehicles, in the wake of two recent incidents.
Veazey said car windows had been broken out and contents stolen twice in the past two weeks, both while cars were parked near the town’s walking park.
The Great Outdoors
Construction is proceeding rapidly on the Tunica Museum’s outdoor classroom.
Taskforce, Road Department going to work on employment issues
Creating more jobs and keeping employees happy with the ones they have were two of the highlights of the July 2 meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation President and CEO Lyn Arnold said a taskforce of several local entities has been created to focus on employment in Tunica County. Its mission is to create the best workforce to compete in the global job market.
