MDEQ: use caution when dealing with paint
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is advising homeowners to ensure that their renovators and painters are certified by the agency’s Lead-based Paint Program. This caution applies only to homes built before 1978, and if the renovation work disturbs old paint that contains lead.
Mississippi’s Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program received authorization in April 2010 to administer and enforce the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Renovation Program and is managed by MDEQ’s Air Division.
