Reporting on this disaster
Last week, not an hour after the May 13 Tunica Times went to press, President Obama signed a disaster declaration that includes Tunica County. The release of the information literally came minutes too late to make the paper.
That’s the way it happens sometimes with a weekly newspaper. We wait and wait to get information, holding off until the last possible moment. Then when we give up and send the paper to The Panolian in Batesville to be printed, the news we were waiting for comes in.
That’s why we’re posting frequent updates to our web site, www.tunicatimes.com, and our Facebook page. Of course, there are limitations there, too. Every reader will not have computer access.
You would think technology has made communications easier, but that’s not really the case. It seems to us that technology has further isolated us into our own little worlds.
The Tunica Times is committed to getting you, our readers, the best information available to us, as quickly as possible. We hope you will call with your questions and concerns, and we will try our best to get factual answers.
And if we’ve helped even one person throughout this disaster, that makes it all worthwhile for us.
