Cookin with The Columns: A Holy Kiss
A Holy Kiss
2 Corinthians 13:11-14
When I was a teenager, growing up in Brooklyn, the church we attended had a number of members who came from Newfoundland, Canada.
They had come south for good jobs in the construction industry and stayed. They were wonderful people who added a lot to our congregation. They were also great role models for us young people. They were hard working, committed to their families, and very involved in the life of the church.
One, an older man (to us at least) by the name of Bax Wheeler, was someone we tried desperately to stay away from. He was a great guy, but we had a couple of problems with him. First, he was always asking us to do something in the church, especially to take part in the worship service—and you know how much young teenage boys try to avoid that! With our voices cracking and our feet and muscle groups not completely under our control, the last thing we wanted was to be on display in front of God and the whole congregation.
