Golf carts considered by aldermen
July 5’s Board of Aldermen meeting carted in discussion on street legal vehicles inside the town limits.
Mayor Chuck Cariker said he had spoken to leaders of other communities during the Mississippi Municipal League’s conference at the end of June. How to handle golf carts on streets was a popular topic among many.
Cariker said he would like to propose an ordinance asking citizens with golf carts to pay a $25 registration fee with the police department. They would be required to have liability insurance and would only be allowed west of Highway 61. Drivers could cross River Road and Magnolia Street but would be encouraged not to drive up and down them. Cart owners would also be asked to sign a waiver releasing the town of any liability.
