Election results delayed
The clear winners of a few races in Tunica County’s general election were not apparent Tuesday night, as Election Commissioners remained at the courthouse hand counting absentee ballots until well after midnight.
At presstime on Wednesday, unofficial totals were still being held, pending input from the Attorney General’s office. The commission did release numbers that did not include any absentee or affidavit ballot counts. How many ballots will be counted is also unknown.
In the contested races, Beat 2 Supervisor, incumbent Cedric Burnett, leads challenger Mark Hudson 378 to 226. In the race for District 3’s supervisor seat, Phillis V. Williams was ahead of incumbent Paul Battle 436 to 279. Henry ‘Lil Sonny’ Nickson Jr. led incumbent Bobby E. Williams 230 to 180 in the race for District 4. Rev. McKinley Daley was ahead of Rico Harris 320 to 310. Constable Southern District Incumbent Lil Joe Anderson posted 1037 to Tyler Brown’s 271.
