Fire destroys apartments
An early morning fire in the Nickson Apartments in downtown Tunica has displaced some 20 residents.
The Tunica Fire Department responded with two engines and 15 firefighters to the 6:45 a.m. call. Flames were visible when firefighters arrived. The blaze was quickly contained, but significant structural damage and a partial roof collapse occurred at the 22-unit complex, Fire Chief Scott Goff reported.
Goff said the fire apparently started in an electrical outlet in the third apartment from the south end of the building and spread rapidly to surrounding units.
